This article, written by Ashanka Kumari, analyzes the power of two great female artists, Beyonce and Lady Gaga. Although I am focusing my paper on the topic of feminism and how these artists present their views of feminism to the world, this article discusses these women’s other source of power, their alter egos. Both Beyonce and Lady Gage have alter egos when they perform on stage. In one performance, Lady Gaga embodies “Jo Calderone”, an ex lover of Gaga speaking of how she left him. As the article states, artists try to provoke their audience to seriously think about how gender plays a role in the music industry and in the world itself, therefore these alter egos are trying to tell the audience something. In comparison to Lady Gaga, Beyonce has four alter egos, Sasha Fierce, Yoncé, Mrs. Carter, and Third Ward Trill. Each alter ego helps Beyonce play a different role in asserting her power. Sasha Fierce, for example, helped Beyoncé show a more aggressive and sensual side to her music, which was different than the mainstream work Beyoncé was doing. After killing off Sasha Fierce, and introducing the world to her new alter egos, Beyonce has been able to show her multi faceted personality, talent, and message to the world. Each woman’s alter egos helps her display another type of strength to enhance her image and assist in the battle of feminism. Their source of strength does not only come from their will to correct feminism, but from their alter egos which enhance their strength.

The article that you choose sounds interesting. Many female artist are treated unfair because they are female. People like Beyonce help to spread feminist messages to their viewers. I never knew that they had alter egos. I think that your right that those alter egos probably help to strengthen their feminist messages.

I read your rough draft in class. Please include this in your essay. Also add why Beyonce needs her alter ego in the music industry. I criticize because i need the participation.
